Stone Coated Metal Roof on a Home in Driftwood, Texas
by Camille Dodson, Editorial Assistant
Any professional in the roofing industry is able to say that Texas roofing comes with its own unique set of challenges. Between the extreme heat, humidity, thunderstorms, and hail, the average Texas roof takes quite the beating from the elements. When a client came knocking with a hail damaged asphalt shingle roof on their home in the idyllic and expansive gated community of La Ventana in Driftwood, Texas, it was time to call in the experts.
Green Knight® Metal Roofing, in Austin, Texas, specializes exclusively in installing resilient and aesthetically appealing metal roofs. Serving Central Texas since 2007, the company firmly believes in the benefits of metal roofing and will not install any other kind of shingle or tile on their jobs. This means that the company’s teams are incredibly skilled and are able to install high quality and eco friendly roofs for their clients with expertise and efficiency. They were the natural choice for replacing the damaged roof in Driftwood.
Of course, that does not mean everything was smooth sailing for the Green Knight team. Despite knowing that they wanted a metal roof on their home, the client had specific aesthetics that they wanted to adhere to, and also needed to make sure that the new roof would be approved by their HOA. However, Green Knight’s expertise in the field is not just for show. With their skill in installing so many different varieties of metal roofing, they were able to recommend a style and product that made both the client and the HOA happy.
“The client wanted to replace their damaged roof with a metal roof but did not like the appearance of standing seam metal roofing,” said Joel Kenty, CEO of Green Knight Metal Roofing. “We presented them with the Unified Steel® stone-coated steel shingle option and both residents of the home fell in love with it.”
Manufactured by Westlake Royal Roofing Solutions™, Unified Steel is a lightweight metal roofing system that imitates the look of other styles of roofing while still having the strength and protection of metal. Unified Steel is stone-coated, which is heat resistant and helps keep the temperatures down within the home. This will help the client cut costs on air conditioning in the battle against the Texas heat.
All Unified Steel panels provide Class 4 Hail Impact Resistant rated performance, the best rating available for roofing products, and is Class A rated for fire resistance. The material is warranted for hail up to 2-1/2 inches in diameter and winds up to 120 mph, which helped add peace of mind for the client, because they had wished to avoid their new roof getting as damaged as their previous roof. The client requested the COTTAGE shingle style of Unified Steel in the Timberwood HD color, resulting in a very natural, woody look for their new roof.
“The client loved watching the installation process,” said Kenty. Even though the Unified Steel panels are lightweight, they have the look of thick, heavy wood shingles, and were impressive to see going up on the roof.
The community of La Ventana is filled with sprawling properties with large yards and beautiful homes. Now, with its new roof, the client’s home will continue to fit in with the other gorgeous properties around it, while also having the additional safety of a resilient and stunning stone coated metal roof that will be able to stand up to all of the crazy Texas weather.
