Johnny Zamrzla

It is with profound sadness that the Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) shares the news of the passing of a true legend in the roofing industry and a beloved friend, Johnny Zamrzla, affectionately known to many as Johnny Z, at the age of 86.

While Zamrzla’s professional accomplishments are nearly too numerous to list and speak volumes about his leadership and dedication, it is the man behind those achievements who will be remembered most fondly. Zamrzla’s warmth, integrity, and unwavering support for his peers left a lasting impression on everyone privileged to know him.

Zamrzla was instrumental in shaping the WSRCA, helping to form the foundation upon which we continue to build today. In 1999, he was rightfully honored with induction into the WSRCA Hall of Fame, a testament to his lifelong commitment to elevating the roofing industry. Nationally, Zamrzla’s leadership extended to the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), where he served as Past President and was the distinguished recipient of the NRCA’s highest honor, the J.A. Piper Award, in 1984.

The WSRCA was incredibly fortunate to have Zamrzla in attendance at the Western Roofing Expo this past September. He was in wonderful spirits, sharing heartfelt stories about the founding of Western States. As always, he was a joy to be around, his laughter, insight, and presence lit up the room.

Zamrzla’s influence will continue to be felt across the roofing community, not only through the legacy of his work but in the values and spirit he instilled in all of us. He will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing this extraordinary man.
