In Memoriam

Dean Van Dyne, former Western States Roofing Contractors Association (WSRCA) president, has passed away at the age of 87. Van Dyne was the WSRCA’s 18th president from 1991-1992.

Van Dyne graduated with an Associate Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1955 from Southern Colorado State, a Bachelor of Science Degree in physical science in 1959 from Colorado State, and an MBA in 1974 from Santa Clara University. He put himself through school by cleaning the swimming pool at Colorado State, giving lifeguard instructions, and summer construction jobs. His upbringing instilled upon him a strong work ethic combined with a desire to succeed.

He moved to Reno, Nevada, after college and started his own roofing firm, Van Dyne and Sons’ Roofing, which was acquired by D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal, Inc., Sparks, Nevada, in 1997. He was active in the WSRCA as well as the National Roofing Contractors Association, where he also served as a director. Van Dyne’s focus as the WSRCA’s president was on educating the Western roofing contractor so that they could build the best businesses possible.

Van Dyne was an avid outdoorsman, gardener, hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Linda, before her passing in 2018. Van Dyne has seven children and many grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
