Montana Roofing Contractors Gather for Annual Convention

by Marcus Dodson, associate editor

If you are a roofing contractor doing business in Montana, then you were probably at the big gathering. The Montana Roofing Contractors Association held their 19th annual convention and trade show January 23-25, 2007, in Bozeman, Montana. The annual event once again drew roofing contractors, architects, manufacturers, and industry professionals from throughout the West.

The events got underway with the seminar, Roofing Safety: OSHAÕs Current Requirements. John Schehl, NRCAÕs director of Education and Training spoke about educating contractors on federal safety regulations. That night the opening banquet was held, and was fallowed with entertainment by Shaun Dee, the Hypno Hick, Fastest Hypnotist in the West. The night wrapped up with a Texas Hold Ôem Tournament.

Educational seminars over the next few days included Leadership and Sales and Marketing, presented by David Harrison GAF; and Hiring, Discipline and Terminations, presented by Wendy Christie, Human Resources Consulting. There were also two AIA continuing educational courses entitled, Durability: How Cover Boards Contribute, and Commercial Roofing: The Fundamentals. During the breakfast, current WSRCA president, Charlie Frost, spoke on the state of the Western roofing industry.

Convention attendance was very good, and the trade-show floor was always busy. The exhibitors we spoke with were very pleased with the turnout, and with the interaction they had with attendees during the event.

At the luncheon, the speaker was NRCA vice president, Robert Therrien, who spoke about issues concerning roofing contractors across the country. The lunch was a build your own Sourdough Cowboy sandwich. Next year, the MRCA convention and trade-show will be held at Fairmont Hot Springs, Montana, January 22-24, 2008. ¥¥¥
