Like the school on which the roof stands, Firestone Building Products is proud of its long history and success with thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) membrane. The first Firestone UltraPly(TM) TPO Roofing System in Utah was installed over the auditorium of Judge Memorial High School in 1998. Approximately 45,000 sq.ft. of 45-mil UltraPly TPO replaced a built-up roof that had exceeded its performance life-cycle.
Blake Redd, vice president of Superior Roofing Company, Inc., the project contractor, convinced the school to select a Firestone UltraPly TPO Roofing System. “Basically, we had not had good success with PVC membranes, and Judge Memorial let the choice of the roofing system be left to the contractor’s discretion,” Redd said. “Even though TPO was newer at the time, Firestone always had reputable products, so we decided to recommend their UltraPly TPO.”
Following past experience and choosing Firestone Building Products turned out to be an excellent choice for both Superior Roofing and Judge Memorial High School. According to Redd, they’ve never received any complaints or repair requests from Judge Memorial regarding the auditorium. Maintenance Supervisor Ken Lewis confirmed this assessment. “I’ve been here for the last seven years, and we have not had any problems over the auditorium where the TPO was installed,” Lewis said. “The Firestone UltraPly TPO Roofing System has been a good product all around. We haven’t even had minor repairs.”
Lewis also reported that the white color of the TPO has maintained with very little wear to the roof. “There is a little oxidization and dirt, but the roof is holding up very well and the seams are still tight,” Lewis said. “If you pulled back the TPO, underneath the insulation and decking would be just as good as the day it was installed.”
Judge Memorial was so pleased with the performance of the 45-mil UltraPly TPO on the auditorium, school officials chose the exact same material to recover their 56,000 sq.ft. gymnasium roof in the summer of 2010. It, too, has been problem free.
Lewis said Judge Memorial is planning on building a middle school this year and is sure that officials will choose Firestone Building Products UltraPly TPO again due to the outstanding performance of the auditorium and gymnasium roofs. “I’d recommend Superior Roofing and Firestone Building Products UltraPly TPO to anyone who wants to have a quality product and an exceptional installation,” noted Lewis.
With development dating back to the 1980’s, the introduction of Firestone Building Products UltraPly TPO came in 1998. With over 1.5 billion sq.ft. of installed UltraPly TPO membranes, Firestone Building Products stable and consistent TPO formulation continues a trusted line of high performance roofing systems. “Superior Roofing has a long history with Firestone Building Products. The reason we keep choosing Firestone is because they stand behind their products and we believe in their performance,” said Redd.
