Retirement

Ken Dillon, former president and now CEO of D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal, Sparks, Nevada, is stepping down after a long and successful career in construction. A native of Reno, Nevada, Dillon attended the University of Colorado before graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno. In 1981, Dillon joined D&D, founded a few years prior by the Dermody family, the legendary industrial developers. Three years later, he bought 50% interest in the fledging company.

D&D Contractors became D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal with partners Michael Dermody and Dillon. The company would grow from six employees to 120 and become one of Nevada’s largest roofing firms. D&D has completed a remarkable list of major projects, including the Supreme Court buildings in the Nevada and California state capitals; convention centers in Nevada and California; the NUMMI GM-Toyota factory in Fremont, California; the Tesla Gigafactory in Nevada; and the San Jose Arena, affectionately called the Shark Tank.

Along the way, D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal received numerous national awards including the prestigious Firestone Master Contractor Inner Circle of Quality designation and is regularly named as a premier roofing contractor by multiple publications. All the while, D&D never forgot its roots, tending to the smallest residential leak and roof repair to the largest commercial project.

One of Dillon’s proudest accomplishments was transforming D&D into an employee-owned company in 2001, which was a huge boost to employee morale, retention, and retirement. “We’re all owners,” he stated. “So we all care that each job is done right.”

Dillon comes from an iconic Nevada family that is made up of elected officials, lawyers, and military leaders. Dillon’s mother, Barbara Vucanovich, was elected to Congress, where she served seven terms. His father, Kenneth Dillon, Sr., was a Harvard-trained lawyer and founding partner of Vargas, Dillon, and Bartlett. Dillon and his wife, Sandra, have four children. He is looking forward to spending time with his grandchildren, as well as fishing, flying, and traveling.
