For over 30 years, Thomas House Family Shelter in Garden Grove, California, has provided a safe, supportive environment and the resources necessary for families with children that are experiencing homelessness, to permanently change their lives. The organization provides a transitional shelter, counseling, employment assistance, a children’s program, and much more. Recently, Thomas House Family Shelter purchased a new property that has allowed them to expand their services to help more homeless families with children. An eight-unit apartment complex, which sits adjacent to the shelter’s current site, allows the charitable organization to accommodate 24 families.

A big part of being able to provide such wonderful services to the local community is by keeping overhead costs low. So, when it came time to assess the structural integrity of the roof on their new structure, Thomas House Family Shelter was overjoyed by the assistance they received from two roofing industry champions. IB Roof Systems™, a manufacturer of durable roofing products for commercial and residential projects, heroically stepped in to provide a low-slope roof for the charity. IB Roof Systems provided an extensive array of products, including all new flashings, edge metals, cones, vents, adhesives, plates, fasteners, caulks, and additional accessories.

Antis Roofing & Waterproofing, Irvine, California, has been providing Southern California with comprehensive roofing systems since 1989 and was more than happy to lend a hand with the project. The roofing team installed a 1/2” fan fold insulation and 60 mil IB Roof Systems PVC membrane over the existing built-up roof. By providing the white PVC membrane roof with insulation and edge metals, new vents, and flashings, Thomas House benefits from a 25-year warranty, significant energy benefits, superior fire safety, and cost savings from the existing built-up roof. Additionally, the installation of an IB Roof Systems PVC membrane means the absence of any water ponding issues.

“We are overjoyed to be part of this story at Thomas House and to help keep these families safe and dry when they need it most,” said Charles Antis, founder and CEO of Antis Roofing & Waterproofing. “Thank you to IB Roof Systems for your generosity in donating all of the materials. I love our industry.”

“Ultimately, the installation of a roof system on a building such as Thomas House, where inhabitants rely on a safe and warm home, is so important,” said Eric Carlisle, marketing director, IB Roof Systems. “Antis Roofing is IB’s 2018 Contractor of the Year, and with a premier company installing and providing impeccable service, the IB products and accessories make this project a model for giving. The best solutions and service provide great and lasting results. If you’re going to do it, do it right.”
