Arizona Convention

Arizona RCA Convention a Resounding Success

by Dan Cohen, executive director, Arizona Roofing Contractors Association

Not to insult nor minimize the importance of the attendance of associate members, we love you too, but, for the first time in modern history roofing contractors and their employees outnumbered associate members at the convention.

It was close, but finally, after working hard for over nine years to get more roofing contractors to convention, we finally did it. The final numbers for convention were: roofing contractors 203, associate members 192 and guests and VIP's 27 for a total of 422 full registrations. In addition, there were 72 partial registrations so we had 494 ARCA members in attendance.

Convention Chair Michael Reeves from Star Roofing and his co-chairs, Dave and Mary Coultrap from Division Seven Systems, and the entire 30-person convention committee did a remarkable job in pulling off what has got to be the best convention in our history. We sincerely hope that everyone in attendance had a great time and brought back wonderful memories and big prizes.

Dalmatian Roofing, (Jennifer McQueen and Craig Mulder) was honored as the ÒRoofing Contractor of the YearÓ for their many contributions to the Association and their participation in numerous projects during the course of the year. They worked their tails off for the Association this past year and are very deserving of this award. McQueen will be serving the Association again this year as first vice president.

The ÒAssociate Member of the YearÓ award was won by Staco Architectural Roof Tile for their participation in almost everything the Association worked on and their contributions to all the projects they did not actively participate in. April, Kirk, and Ashley supported the Association in almost every way possible and they were honored for their participation and contributions. They also were very deserving of this award. April was elected to the board of directors and will serve the Association as a director for the first time this year.

Reeves was honored as the ÒChairperson of the YearÓ for the outstanding job he did as convention chair. Reeves has worked for the Association as convention chair for four years and each year the convention has gotten bigger and better thanks in large part to his efforts.

Michael Cohen from Capital Roofing was honored as ÒARCA Volunteer of the YearÓ for his continued work and support for practically everything the Association undertook. He was always there to assist whenever needed and worked on virtually every project throughout the course of the year.

This Association owes so much to so many people and companies that make everything we do a success. Without the tremendous support the association receives from all of you we could accomplish nothing. We certainly recognize this fact and appreciate your continued support.

ARCA past president John Plescia from Star Roofing recently wrote an article for Western Roofing explaining why ARCA is able to achieve so much and why we are so successful [ÒHistory of an Association,Ó May/June 2006]. The last line in Plescia's article sums it all up as well as anyone can put it, ÒGreat members make for a great association.Ó ¥¥¥
